How it started...

Borderless (American) Dreams

Founder: Rita Li

Project 1: Story Writing Team of 8 students came together to documents an Chinese asylum-seeking family’s journey of migration to the United States. The team makes versions of this story available in both Mandarin and English. Their final book is to publish a book by collecting these immigration stories. 

Project 2: Echo Trails is a student immigration narrative writing contest led by students for students. Its objective is to empower youth journalistic voices and support local refugee communities by collecting immigration stories from the community.

Character Limits: 300 words - 650 words

Prompts:​

  1. Share the stories of immigrants in your local community. Highlight the diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences within the immigrant population.

  2. Tell a story from your own immigration journey or the journey of someone close to you. Reflect on the challenges, surprises, and personal growth experienced during the process.

  3. Write about your family's immigration history. Explore the reasons for their migration, the challenges they faced, and the impact of immigration on subsequent generations.


Prizes:

  • 1st Place - $100

  • 2nd Place - $50

  • 3rd Place - $30
